‘Kulbarf’ to take part in San Francisco Iranian Film Festival

The San Francisco Iranian Film Festival in the US is to host Iranian ‘Kulbarf’.

The San Francisco Iranian Film Festival (IFF) in the US has been slated to host the award-winning movie ‘Kulbarf’.

Directed by Milad Mansouri, the movie tells the story of porters who gamble their lives on border for a piece of bread.

It recently received two awards at the May 2021 edition of the V.i.Z. Film Fest in Bulgaria. The late Ansarian, Iranian ex-footballer and actor, won the award for Best Feature Film Actor and Mehdi Rezaee grabbed the award for Best Feature Film Cinematography. The film was nominated at eight sections.

Hossein Soleimani grabbed the award for best actor for his appearance in ‘Kulbarf’ at the 2021 Tietê International Film Awards in Brazil.

Best actor in a leading role award was dedicated to Soleimani, Hossein Mehri grabbed the best actor in a supporting role, and the film received best film and best directing awards at the South America Awards festival.

Ansarian’s voice was supposed to be recorded for one of the scenes, but it was not possible after his unexpected death. Therefore, the screenplay is slightly changed and the voice of another actor replaced his. The late Ansarian passed away of COVID-19 on February 3 at the age of 43.

Among the cast members of the film are Deniz Motevasseli, Mahtab Servati, Ali Farasati, Artin Amjadi and Payam Ahmadinia.

Launched in 2008, the IFF is an annual event showcasing independent feature and short films made by or about Iranians from around the world.

It is the first independent Iranian film festival outside Iran.

The 13th edition of the festival has been scheduled for September 18-19, 2021.
